Western Visayas is not affected directly by typhoon #KiyapoPH but several areas in the region experienced flooding after hours of rain on Friday, July 24, 2026.
According to state weather bureau PAGASA in Iloilo, up to 80.8 millimeter of rainfall was recorded from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m.
Southern Antique, Iloilo, and Guimaras may continue to experience rains until the weekend.
In Iloilo City alone, up to 30 barangays experienced flooding, according to data from the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The district of Lapaz saw its streets turning into rivers of floodwater as residents like Relly Mecha of Barangay Divinagracia used a motorized hose to suck the water out of their homes.
“Hindi naman magsa-subside sa loob, ngunit nabawasan lang upang hindi masyadong malalim,” she said.
In Barangay Calubihan in Jaro District, floodwaters also entered houses that several residents had to evacuate.
“Hanggang madaling araw, tumaas hanggang dito namin. Hindi pa kami nakaktulog hanggang ngayon. Ang mga dumi sinusunod namin (sa paglinis), said a resident, Linda Hibionada.
Across Iloilo in the island of Guimaras, water at the dike has overflowed onto the street in Jordan town.
ANTIQUE
In the neighboring province of Antique, three towns were affected by flood, including Hamtic, Tobias Fornier, and Sibalom.
At least 139 families had to be evacuated.
The local government also evacuated residents preemptively, especially those living in areas susceptible to flooding and landslide.
“Nag-isyu tayo ng utos na i-commence ang preemptive evacuation sa mga highly susceptible sa mga baha at landslide,” said Broderick Train, head of the Provincial DRRMO.
In Barangay Funda, Coast Guard personnel had to rescue residents trapped in their houses.
In Barangay Odiong in Sibalom, several residents sought shelter at the elementary school in the area.
SCHOOL
Based on data by the Department of Education (DepEd)-6, up to 47 local government units in Western Visayas suspended face-to-face classes.
Classes were also suspended in Bacolod City and 13 other LGUs in Negros Occidental.
