Maria Isabel Lopez survives car crash, now recovering in hospital

Former beauty queen and actress Maria Isabel Lopez is currently recovering in the hospital after surviving a car crash.
The update was shared by her daughter, Mara Lopez, through an Instagram Stories post showing Maria Isabel lying in a hospital bed.
“She's alive and that's all that matters,” Mara wrote, as she tagged her mother's account. She also added, “Mahal kita, pagaling ka.”
In the comments section of the same post, Maria Isabel confirmed the incident herself, saying, “Survived a car crash. Thank you Lord.”
Maria Isabel was crowned Binibining Pilipinas Universe 1982 and represented the Philippines in the 31st Miss Universe pageant held in Lima, Peru.
She later pursued acting and appeared in several films, including Isla, Daughters of Eve, Kinatay, Ways of the Sea, Lorna, and Ma' Rosa, among others.
She won Best Supporting Actress at the Gawad Tanglaw and Golden Screen Awards for her performance in Kinatay.
Most recently, she starred in Diamonds in the Sand, which won Best Debut at Italy's Far East Film Festival 2025.
