Pinoy Pop Superstar alumnus Brenan Espartinez, who rose to fame as a child actor, tried his luck in the ultimate talent competition Battle of the Judges as part of Boy Abunda's squad.
Before joining Pinoy Pop Superstar in 2005, Brenan was known for playing Agatom in the educational children's TV series Sineskwela.
Besides the GMA singing competition, he also joined other singing contests and starred in a few TV shows.
Unfortunately, Brenan's entertainment career didn't flourish. Nevertheless, he is happy because he is able to support his family, according to his judge-mentor, the King of Talk.
The protégé of National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab works as a vocal coach and a backup singer but is still not giving up his dream to become a famous singer, thus he joined Battle of the Judges.
In the August 19 episode of the reality talent search, judge Boy fielded Brenan, who performed the complex vocals of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," versus JB Dela Cruz a.k.a. Lazerman from Jose Manalo's squad, who put on a visually stunning show using laser lights.
Brenan unfortunately fell short in the competition after his competitor, JB, got more votes.
Meanwhile, for the second battle, world hip-hop dance champion Power Impact Dancers of Annette Gozon-Valdes's squad went against light artist Erwin Reyes of Bea Alonzo's squad.
Power Impact Dancers moved and grooved to a Japanese-themed dance routine while Erwin created an immersive experience with light painting, melancholic music, and touching spoken word poetry.
In the end, the latter earned more votes.
JB and Erwin are the last two contenders who joined the 10 performers who move on to the next level of the competition called "Battle to the Top" or the semi-finals round.
Hosted by Asia's Multimedia Star Alden Richards, Battle of the Judges airs Saturdays, 7:15 p.m. after Pepito Manaloto on GMA.
It can also be viewed via live stream on the program's official Facebook page and YouTube channel.
