Rene Baterbonia's former Ateneo de Davao teammates commit to De La Salle Zobel

Ateneo de Davao University basketball coach Jess Evangelio wrote on his Facebook page that four of Rene Baterbonia's former teammates, Macky Pellegrino, Matt Cayetano, Rhysus Bajenting, and JM Sanoria, originally set to transfer to Ateneo De Manila University, have decided to take their talents to De La Salle Zobel.
"It is with great pride and gratitude that I finally confirm that our boys will be joining La Salle Zobel as they begin an exciting new chapter in their basketball and academic journey.
"We are truly thankful to La Salle Zobel for opening its doors and providing them with the opportunity to grow not only as athletes, but also as students and young men of character. Your trust and belief in their potential mean so much to all of us.
"We do not take this opportunity lightly. Our boys are committed to working hard, staying humble, and representing the Lasallian community with pride, discipline, and integrity both on and off the court.
"A special thank you to Coach Gian Nazario for believing in them and for playing a significant role in helping shape their future. We are honored to entrust our boys to your program. The journey continues. Animo!

The announcement comes weeks after Coach Jess mourned the passing of Rene Baterbonia, a former Ateneo de Davao standout who was set to join the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) season this year.
Rene Baterbonia and fellow incoming Ateneo Blue Eagles player Divine Adili passed away during a team activity in Dipaculao, Aurora, a tragedy that deeply affected the Philippine basketball community.
Despite the loss, Rene's former teammates are moving forward with their basketball aspirations as they prepare to represent De La Salle Zobel in the coming basketball season.
