The name of late actor Rico Yan has been creating a buzz online, proving that while he passed away 22 years ago, he is still remembered and will always remain in the hearts of his fans.
His name recently became one of the most searched after netizens posted photos and videos on social media, showing their visit to the late actor's resting place at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque.
On TikTok, one video became viral where a netizen visiting Rico's tomb was shown touching the nameplate and hugging it at one point. And while the original video has been taken down, it has already gained traction and reposted on the platform.
A Facebook meme page even shared a compilation of photos from visitors, and even called Rico's tomb a “tourist destination.”
Actress Jessy Mendiola, meanwhile, took to Instagram stories to express her dismay at the netizens by calling them out and asking the social media users to respect the departed.
A Facebook group dedicated to Rico and his former love team and girlfriend Claudine Baretto also asked the same thing. In a post, they said that while they are “genuinely and really glad” for all the love shown for Rico, they noticed that “things are becoming different and alarming already.”
“We have been seeing a lot of accounts who obviously are using Rico only just for entertainment purposes or in other words - for clout; which is something [that] needs to be stopped dahil hindi na ito tama,” they wrote.
