hair color aftercare

Check out this two-step hair color aftercare by a salon owner!

So you've finally achieved that hair color you've been dying to have, and you've already posted that gorgeous selfie revealing your newly colored locks. What's next?

After basking in the glory of likes and positive comments about your hair, the next goal is to definitely maintain its beauty. Whether you opted for a traditional full head color or you went for the trendy rainbow hair, you'll still need aftercare just the same.

What to consider before coloring hair according to a salon owner

We recently chatted with Mr. Jon Bantigue, owner of Azta Urban Salon, during the graduation rites of L'oréal Business School's first batch of graduates, where he served as one of the faculty members.

Jon shared with us a simple two-step hair color aftercare that you can easily follow and even do at home.

1. Hair treatment

According to Jon, hair treatment is essential in keeping your mane healthy, since the bleaching can cause dryness, frizziness, and breakage.

There are two kinds of hair treatment that you can choose from: treatment while hair color is being done, and treatment after your hair has been colored.

“We don't need to compromise our hair's health while bleach is being done, kasi may tinatawag na ngayong smart bond, which is basically a treatment that's mixed with bleach.

"So that while the bleach develops, hindi siya nakakasira as much compared to doing bleach without smart bond.

"So that's one of the treatments na nakakatulong. Don't bleach your hair without smart bond.”\

2. The right shampoo and conditioner

Your simple daily hair care routine has great impact in your hair's condition. If you choose the right products and use them appropriately, you are sure to reap its long term benefits.

Your hair will be well-nourished and the color will stay vibrant for longer. Conversely, if you settle for second-rate products, it may wreak havoc to your hair.

“Kung nagpakulay ka ng hair, it is highly recommended that you use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Sulfate is an ingredient that helps wash off foreign chemicals sa buhok, or aliens kung tawagin.

"So yung mga regular shampoo and conditioner, they have sulfate, that's why they clean your hair. Unfortunately, if you use that with colored hair, it also cleans the color.

"Usually professional salons have sulfate-free shampoo and conditioners to prevent the colors from fading immediately, or fading in a way na nagiging dull yung tone.”
