As her 38th birthday draws near, it is only fit that we find out what more is up her divalicious sleeve!
A new album may not be in the offing just yet but Asia’s Songbird continues to fly high with her many various projects that will surely be hits regardless of their form. Regine Velasquez has many reasons to be thankful. She has performed everywhere and for everyone all over the world. She has successfully filled the Araneta Coliseum time and time again. She has easily sold millions of her albums every time she comes out with one. She has even become a blockbuster queen every so often. What else is there for Asia’s Songbird to do? Cartoons!
Film Talk
“I’m a dancer here and an action star. Ang cute!!!” Regine says when asked about Urduja.

Urduja is the first full length animation film to be conceptualized, produced and created by Filipinos for Filipinos. Regine is excited and proud to be part of this groundbreaking venture.
“Nakaka-touch kasi ‘yung mga animators, they are so proud, kasi nga naman, ‘yung mga ginagawa nila sa States, for Disney [for example], siguro at least 25 percent noon mga Pilipino ‘yung gumawa and they’re not even given credit.”
The legendary heroine Urduja features the Regine’s speaking and singing voice. This is a first for the Songbird. She narrates how, despite her vast experience at recoding studios, dubbing is a totally different and difficult challenge.
“Ang hirap maging dubber, sa totoo lang! Kunwari mag-sisigh ka lang, doon ten times! OA lahat. After 30 min, nahilo talaga ako.”
While recording, she was being sketched by the dozen or so animators who will give life to
Urduja. She shares how the cartoonists were present during that time to capture her “expression, mukha ko, paano ako mag-salita.”
Regine also adds that the animation was really good but what is more important, for her at least, is that in spite of the meticulous attention given to the animation, the story was also given justice.
Full House
On April 27, Sunday, Regine opens her home to the whole country as she celebrates her birthday at her own backyard. Her first ever birthday special entitled
The Best of Me was shot at the diva’s house and this was her own idea!

This is another first for the Songbird since she has always been very adamant about her privacy. Her sanctuary has never been featured in any magazine or show.
She shares candidly, “Actually, a lot of people have been asking na nga to feature the house and not that pinagdadamot ko. Hindi naman. Kaya lang parang I wanted to keep my privacy. Siyempre kasi 'di ba, that’s your home parang ayaw mo naman na kahit saan nakikita.”
But for this special event, she made an exception. She realized that if there ever was a perfect time for her to present her lovely abode to the public, it would be this. The stage for the program--where Regine will sing her never before heard songs, is placed on top of the swimming pool, an infinity pool inspired by the design of the one in the Koreanovela hit
Full House.
Based on the trailer of the said show, Regine’s home seemed grand indeed. With glass walls, an elegant staircase and stunning view, it truly befits her royal songstress. But she humbly discards the oohs and ahhs.
“It’s not actually big eh. It’s not!” She exclaims then continues, “Kaya lang, lahat naman na nakukunan ng camera, nadodoble talaga eh!”
If you want to see more of Regine’s lovely home, then be there when she sings the songs you have never heard her sing before! You are invited to her special birthday celebration on April 27, Sunday after
Ful Haus.
You can post your greetings for Regine at the iGMA Forum!
