Mano Po Legacy star Aiko Melendez's recent Facebook post about the snobbish behavior of celebrities caught the attention of many netizens.
The seasoned actress and incumbent Quezon City councilor began her career in the '80s as a Regal Baby and has eventually built a reputation as one of the finest in show business.
In her post yesterday (December 8), Aiko shared that she always takes time to greet or interact with her fans as much as possible.
She explained, “My take and view sa pagiging snob ng mga artista. Ako kasi kapag me bumabati sa akin o magpa-papicture kahit gaano na ako kapagod pinagbibigyan ko. Ang rason ko lagi hindi naman naten alam kung first and last encounter mo na dun sa taong yun eh so 'yung mga simpleng gestures like saying HI! Or pagbigyan ng picture taking ok lang yan. Hindi naman kawalan sa pagkatao nyo yan.”
Aiko added that there are situations when a celebrity can politely turn down a request for a photo.
“Pwera nalang kung Asa ER ka ng hospital at hindi naman tama, ang right timing pwede ka tumanggi. Lahat me right timing eh.
“Like sa pagpunta sa mga lamay at patay as much as possible ayaw ko po nagpapapicture sa tabi ng kabaong kasi bilang tanda ng aking respeto yun sa namatay at namatayan kaya dun sa mga nagpapakuha inaaya ko sila sa ibang angle tara dun tayo sa independent space.”
“Ang artista, politicians, athletes, influencers etc considered as a public figure give credit also to your fans na iniidolo kayo ung simpleng time mo,” she added.
“If you want your fans to respect your private time, I suggest don't go to public places otherwise hindi mo talaga maiiwasan na me matuwa na nakakakilala syo ang mag hi and hello or papakuha ng picture sa inyo. Tandaan Humility! Fame is all temporary but right attitude lasts a lifetime...GOOD AM! Be nice and kind!”
Several fans commented on Aiko's post and shared how sweet the actress treats her fans.
Riza Tamayo Bernal even recalled, “That's why we loved you ever since nag-start ka ng pag aartista mo... I kept your snail mail that you've sent to me, way back on my high school days.”
Meanwhile, another netizen MsLance Eballar Indolos remembered that she traveled to Bonifacio Global City just to see Aiko Melendez.
“Tinakbo ko talaga literal ang BGC mga ilang kilometro din from our house. Dala-dala ko ang pictures na yan para magpa autograph. At hindi siya nag dalawang isip at nag-'hi' at ngumiti. Para akong nasa cloud nine that time. Super kilig. Ganun ang pakiramdam ng Isang fan…nawala lahat ng pagod ko.”
