
Renowned film director Amable “Tikoy” Aguiluz VI passed away at the age of 72. It was confirmed by the Directors Guild of the Philippines Incorporated (DGPI) through their Facebook post last February 19.
It was also confirmed by his family on Pep.ph with the statement "With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Amable 'Tikoy' Aguiluz VI or Direk Tikoy to most of us. While we grieve this loss deeply, we kindly ask for your understanding as we choose to mourn in private for the time being."
After hearing the sad news, some celebrities expressed their condolences for the filmmaker's passing.
One of them was Albert Martinez, who starred in Director Tikoy's films: Rizal in Dapitan, Tatsulok, and Segurista.
On his Instagram story, the actor mourned for the filmmaker's death as he shared a throwback picture of him in one of their movies.

He also posted a reel with all of the posters of their films together, including his message for the director, "Maraming salamat, Director Tikoy, sa mga magagandang pelikula na naiwan mo sa'min. Mananatili kang alamat sa larangan ng pagpepelikula... Rest in Peace."
Filipina actress Michelle Aldana also took to Instagram to mourn Aguiluz's passing. She posted her pictures with the director on her story. One of them has the caption: "The last time I saw Direk Tikoy was at his exhibition in 2022: RARA AVIS2"

Aguiluz was an award-winning film director who's known for his works like Boatman, Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story, and many more.
He's the founder of the Cinemanila International Film Festival and co-founder of the University of the Philippines Film Center (now known as UP Film Institute).
