Pinay tennis superstar Alex Eala has once again made Pinoys proud, advancing to her first Women's Tennis Association (WTA) 500 finals after overcoming Naomi Osaka of Japan.

The semi-final match was held earlier today, August 2, in Washington, D.C., with Eala winning 6-4 in the first set and finally clinching the finals spot with 6-2 in the last set.

With this win, Eala advances to her final match against Jessica Pegula of the United States, who advanced to the finals after winning against Diana Shnaider of Russia with a score of 7-5 in the first set and 6-4 in the last set. The finals will be held tomorrow, August 3.

The WTA 500 tournament is a category of tennis tournaments in the Women's Tennis Association tour that was implemented in 2021. In the tour, players are ranked based on a rolling 52-week cumulative system, earning points based on how far they advance in a tournament.

From the WTA tournaments, those that yield the highest ranking points during the rolling 52-week period will be used to calculate the player's rankings.

Currently, Eala's official ranking is Number 28 with 1,931 points. After her win against Osaka, her live ranking is at number 24. The Pinay tennis player's ranking is projected to move up to 20 if she wins her finals match against Pegula.

Eala made waves early in July when she defeated world number 3 and defending Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek of Poland in round 32 of the prestigious competition. She also became known as the first Filipina in the Open Era to reach the third and fourth rounds of a major competition.

Despite her loss against Italian professional tennis player Jasmine Paolini, Filipinos are extremely proud of Eala for her historic accomplishments at Wimbledon.
