Ana Feleo acting workshop for Sparkle

For Ana Feleo, an acting workshop can also be a form of therapy.

Actress and acting coach Ana Feleo admits that the acting workshop she facilitates for actors and non-actors is “may pagka-therapeutic.”

During her interview in the Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast, Ana Feleo revealed that she's using the Eric Morris System of Work in the workshops she does.

“It's composed of over 31 techniques and hundreds and hundreds of exercises to help liberate you, to help bring out your voice, to help free you of all the blocks that you have in dealing with your authenticity, your truth,” she explained.

She added that with acting, it's important to get to know your instrument, which is yourself first before you get to know your character or even read the script.

“When I say instrumento, your heart, your body, your voice, your memory, your mind, that's your instrument,” she said.

She continued, “And we forget as actor e, and even the one watching, that ang instrumento natin, katawan natin. Ang emosyon na ginagamit natin, emosyon natin. Ang utak na ginagamit natin para sa character, utak natin, so hindi tayo robot.”

Ana also noted how important it is to “healthily manage” the various emotions that a person tries to conjure up when acting. An effective actor must be able to learn to call these very emotions when a certain scene requires them, and then later on let them go once the scene has ended.

“Sometimes, 'pag hindi mo tatrabahuhin or you don't take care of your instrument, pagdating mo sa script, may blocks ka na. Pagdating mo sa script or sa character, manhid ka,” she said.

Ana Feleo added that with the acting classes she facilitates, participants will get to know who they truly are, which makes it sort of therapeutic. Ana assured that everyone who attends her workshop has a safe space to let out his or her emotions.

“The exercises that I give them, they begin to really listen to what they need, what they want, what their wants are, what they need, what they believe in. what they're scared of, what they're proud of, what they love, what they're passionate about, and the things that they're really tired of, not just physically, but in life,” she said.
