You may hate her as the bratty Olive in the afternoon soap “Maging Akin Ka Lamang” but once you get to know her, you’ll discover that Arci is one cool gal with lots of smarts and spunk. Text by KC M. Abalos. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.
She has the classic taray looks of a 1960s kontrabida and that may just be the reason why she got the challenging role of Olive in
Maging Akin Ka Lamang. But really, StarStruck’s Arci Muñoz is far from being a no-good bully. This theater arts student at the University of the Philippines is a rocker chick at heart!
Rocker Chick
“Metal, hardcore, lahat naman, eh [pinapakinggan ko] depende sa mood. Jazz? Kapag malungkot ako medyo nag-e-emote emote ako!” Arci answers with a grin when asked about her preferred musical genre. Once you get her talking about music, she can’t stop! Flyleaf, Coheed and Cambria, and SaosIAN are just some of the bands she lists as her favorites. She also mentioned the artist whom we first thought of as Norah Jones.

“Norah Jeans, hindi Norah Jones! Banda siya!” she corrects us with a giggle. “Banda ‘yun na metal, tapos Incubus [din gusto ko]!” Arci also confesses to loving this last band’s vocalist, Brandon Boyd.
If you doubt her rocker leanings, then her band,
Saydie—pronounced “say die”—where she is the vocalist, will dispel all that. All of her siblings love music, too—specifically, rock music. And since Arci’s dad is the former manager of the immortal
Juan dela Cruz band, it’s no wonder he totally supports his children’s interests.
Arci then reveals to iGMA how she prepares her voice for all the growls and screams when she performs onstage. “Nakikinig ako ng mga influence namin—‘yun nga, Flyleaf, Otep, Kitty. ‘Di ako umiinom ng malamig kasi mahirap talaga sa pag-scream at pag-growl, napapaos talaga ako lalo na kung may gig.”
And just when you think you’ve her pegged her as a hardcore metal junkie or gothic girl complete with Nightmare on Elm Street paraphernalia, she again surprises us with her interest in what else but extreme sports!
Skater Girl
Rather than going to the mall or dating, Arci reveals that when she finds the time, she occupies her day with skateboarding.

”Puro sugat nga ako, eh,” she complains as she shows us her legs, which are free of her imaginary cuts and bruises.
When we asked her when she started her love affair with skateboards, she mischievously answers, ”Since birth! Yung half-pipe dun sa tiyan ng nanay ko, ‘yun ‘yung ginagamit ko! Nag-skate na lang ako palabas!”
When she gets over her fit of the giggles, Arci shares that she and her friends started skating when she was in second year high school. And just like with music, once she started with skateboarding, she couldn’t stop!
Rock music and skateboarding—definitely not the usual interests of your typical teen actress. But then again, Arci isn’t your typical girl—and that’s why we absolutely love her.
