Actor-turned-politician Arjo Atayde broke his silence after being dragged into the controversy surrounding contractors allegedly involved in anomalous flood control programs.
At the hearing, whistleblowers Cezarah “Sarah” Discaya and Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya claimed that some lawmakers and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) executives routinely demanded kickbacks of up to 25 percent from government-funded flood control projects. They alleged that projects would be stalled unless payments were made. Arjo, along with his father Arturo Atayde, was among those identified in the testimony.
In a strong statement via his Instagram Story, the Quezon City 1st District representative categorically denied the allegations, stressing that he has never engaged with contractors nor benefited from any deals.
"I CATEGORICALLY DENY THE ALLEGATION THAT I BENEFITED FROM ANY CONTRACTOR. I HAVE NEVER DEALT WITH THEM. HINDI TOTOO ANG MGA AKUSASYON NA ITO. I HAVE NEVER USED MY POSITION FOR PERSONAL GAIN. AND I NEVER WILL. I WILL AVAIL OF ALL REMEDIES UNDER THE LAW TO CLEAR MY NAME AND HOLD ACCOUNTABLE THOSE WHO SPREAD THESE FALSEHOODS."
Arjo entered politics in 2022 when he ran for and won as Representative of Quezon City's 1st District.
