The annual art fair holds its event online for the second year

For the second year in a row, Art in the Park holds its annual event online this year and it opens today, February 21.

Like many fairs, Art in the Park was forced to transition from a physical event to a virtual one due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mass gatherings are still prohibited to help contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Art in the Park is a yearly fair that features several local galleries and artists and their artworks. In August of last year, the fair held its event virtually for the first time. It featured more than 50 galleries.

This year, a total of 60 galleries are participating in the online event.

Art in the Park started in 2006 and has always been held at Jaime Velasquez Park at Salcedo Village in Makati City. The small park is the venue for several events including the hugely popular Salcedo Weekend Market.

Since the art fair was established, it has been a huge supporter of the Museum Foundation of the Philippines Inc. (MFPI). A portion of the sales from this year's online event will be donated to the said organization.

According to MFPI's website: "The Museum Foundation of the Philippines, Inc. (MFPI) is a non-stock, not-for-profit membership and volunteer organization dedicated to preserve and promote the Philippines' rich artistic and cultural heritage and to provide funding support for the special projects of the National Museum and other museums in the Philippines."

Art in the Park 2021 will run from February 21 to 28 on artinthepark.ph.

Arts and Culture in the Philippines is alive and well. Many public and private organizations are continuing their efforts to help preserve the country's several art and cultural landmarks like the Manila Metropolitan Theater. After years of restoration it is set to open again this year. Check out the photos of the soon-to-reopen theater below:
