The film Balota, starring Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera, has reached a new milestone as it is among the Top 10 non-English movies on Netflix worldwide.

In a post by GMA Pictures, the said movie is currently ranked eight on the list.

Balota made its premiere on Netflix last January 31. Earlier this week, the Marian Rivera starrer landed the number one spot in the Philippines on the said streaming platform.

The award-winning Kapuso actress expressed her gratitude to everyone for this milestone, saying, “Salamat po,” in her Instagram stories.

In August 2024, Balota, which is co-produced by GMA Pictures and GMA Entertainment Group, premiered at the 20th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival and the new cut of the film was shown in cinemas nationwide in October of the same year.

Marian Rivera was one of the recipients of the Best Actress award at the Cinemalaya 2024 for her outstanding performance as Teacher Emmy in Balota. She has also won various awards for her notable acting prowess in the same film.

Directed by Kip Oebanda, Balota tells the story of a land-grabbing tycoon and a former male sexy actor who are locked in a tight race for the mayoral seat of a small town.

Emmy, a teacher who serves in the elections, runs into the wilderness to protect a ballot box containing the last copy of the election results, when violence in their town erupts.
