The Philippine basketball community is mourning the death of basketball patron and business tycoon Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco, who passed away on Tuesday, June 16.
He was 85 years old.
The late San Miguel Corporation chairman and Chief Executive Officer was an avid supporter of Philippine basketball, owning three teams in the Philippine Basketball Association: the San Miguel Beermen, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, and Star Hotshots.
Former Gilas Pilipinas member Marc Pingris paid tribute to Danding Cojuangco, whom he described as a “super boss.”
Marc wrote on Instagram, “RIP Boss Danding!!! Salamat po sa lahat ng tulong nyo sa akin mula ng nag start ako sa PBA salamat sa lahat ng payo na binigay nyo sa akin data, grabe super bait nyo na tao.
“Salamat dahil tuwing nakikita nyo ako tinatawag nyo ako na 'LAKAY' Boss salamat po sa lahat #superboss #puso #lakay.”
Meanwhile, San Miguel Beermen cager Arwind Santos shared his feelings and gratitude to Boss Danding Cojuangco on Instagram too.
Former Dela La Salle Green Archer player Jeron Teng also took to social media to mourn the death of Boss Danding.
On his Instagram post, he recalled a moment when he attended their practice in 2012 amid the typhoon and his medical condition.
Jeron shared, “I'm really saddened by the news of Boss Ecj's passing. He was a great God Father to us during my years playing for the Green and White.
“Despite his health conditions, he always made us feel his presence and support for the basketball team. I will always remember the time when there was a strong typhoon back in year 2012, team practice was moved to LSGH because of heavy flooding in different areas.
“Despite the typhoon and the flood, we saw boss ECJ entering the court to watch our practice, and during that time he had an oxygen tank with him. The whole team was very surprised and we were all moved because his presence alone during that time really meant a lot to us.”
Kib Montalbo and Andrei Caracut also posted separate tributes on their respective Instagram account too.
