Miss Grand International statement

The Miss Grand International organization pointed towards 'inappropriate behavior' as the reason for the action.

The Miss Grand International pageant continues to be one of the more controversy-filled pageants in town as its organization has stripped its second runner-up winner of her position.

In one of the more recent posts on the Miss Grand International Facebook account, the organization announced that the 2024 Miss Grand International second runner-up, Miss Grand Myanmar Thae Su Nyein, has been removed from her position. In the accompanying graphic, the organization explained that this was due to “inappropriate behavior and actions that violated several regulations.”

As of this writing, the Facebook post has received more than 100,000 reactions, more than 20,000 comments, and has been shared more than 9,000 times.

This is the second time that the Miss Grand International pageant has been involved in controversy this year. Three weeks ago, the Miss Grand Cambodia organization has vowed that the Miss Grand International pageant would never return to their country.

The license holder's action was in response to a statement from the Miss Grand International organization claiming that Cambodia did not meet agreed “requirements”. The statement barring Miss Grand International's return to Cambodia was made by Miss Grand Cambodia 2024 Program Manager Imm Sokunthea, who posted on social media that next year, “there is no program called Miss Grand in Cambodia.”

The announcement from Cambodia resulted in Miss Grand Cambodia, Bee Sotheary, withdrawing from the competition. Bee Sotheary's withdrawal came after Miss Grand Costa Rica Macarena Chamberlain also withdrew from the competition due to the changes in the pageant impacting her mental and physical health negatively. Macarena made the announcement on her Instagram account, which is now set to private.

“In the past few hours, my mental and physical health has been severely impacted due to last-minute changes from the organizers. While I understand and appreciate the pageant's efforts to improve the contestants' experience, it has been difficult to adapt to the current situation, and I have to prioritize my health,” she shared in her statement.

The country's representative to the Miss Grand International pageant, CJ Opiaza, would end up as first runner-up.

CJ was crowned at the final show held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Newport World Resorts, besting 19 other queens.
