Mark Bangayan of MP Arts Production

From mounting local events with limited resources to earning national nods, Direk Mel shares how passion, teamwork, and local roots drive his event production journey.

Ever wondered what goes into making those dazzling pageants and stage productions run so seamlessly? While the spotlight naturally falls on the candidates and performers wearing stunning gowns and sharp suits, a whole world of frantic energy, creative storytelling, and tireless problem-solving happens behind the curtain.

For Tuguegarao native Mark Melanio Bangayan—known in industry circles as Direk Mel—that backstage world has been home for years.

Rooted in his Itawes, Ibanag, and Ilocano heritage, Mark's journey started with a simple, relatable goal: creating meaningful community events that celebrate local talent. Like many creatives starting out in the provinces, early productions meant working with tight budgets and tight schedules. Instead of letting resource limits hold them back, Mark and his fellow creatives treated every constraint as a chance to get resourceful, crafting high-caliber shows that rivaled bigger city productions.

Building a Team Culture

Recognizing that mounting a memorable show is never a one-person job, Mark founded MP Arts Production. Alongside core leaders—Direk John Paul C. Sario, Direk Christopher Jay L. Manibog, Direk Raymond Ventura, and Direk Reymar Tolentino—the collective focused on bringing professional production standards to local festivals and beauty pageantry across Cagayan Valley.

Over the years, balancing local cultural authenticity with sleek stage production helped the team earn the trust of local municipalities and clients.

"Every achievement of MP Arts Production is the result of the dedication, talent, and shared vision of every member of the team," Mark emphasizes, keeping the focus firmly on collective effort rather than individual spotlight.

Bringing Local Pride to National Notice

That steady focus on quality and collaboration eventually caught national attention. MP Arts Production and its creative team recently picked up recognitions across various industry bodies—including the 10th Philippine Outstanding Brand of the Year Awards 2026 for Outstanding Local Beauty Pageant Production, as well as honors at the 3rd Philippine Pageantry Excellence Awards 2026, Philippine Glitter Awards 2025, and Asia's Best Brand Excellence Awards 2025.

Despite the industry nods, Mark maintains that awards are secondary to the actual work of opening doors for rural artists and stage crews. For him, the real win remains creating platforms where aspiring provincial performers, pageant personalities, and backstage creatives can build their confidence and pursue their passions.

As local pageantry continues to evolve across the country, stories like Mark's serve as a humble reminder that major productions don't always require massive budgets—just a dedicated team, clear vision, and a deep respect for the community behind the show.
