The new single of the folk-pop group Ben&Ben was inspired by a real-life event that happened to band leaders and brothers Paolo Benjamin and Miguel Benjamin Guico.
In a Facebook post, lead vocalist and guitarist Paolo revealed that the group's new track was written after their sister contracted COVID-19.
“The new song we're releasing, 'Magpahinga,' was written when our sister got COVID-19 more than a month ago,” wrote Paolo.
“It was one of the toughest times for our family. In the middle of these dark days, in the middle of these battles we silently fight, may we remember that it's okay to rest.”
He added, “Thankfully our sister recovered, but there are so many [people] out there who aren't as fortunate, and many likewise are enduring the heaviest of days right now. This song is for all of you. Magpahinga ka muna.”
The song contains the emotional lyrics:
Ayoko namang magpatalo
Pero ba't parang ubos na ubos na ako? Ang sabi mo
Dito ka lang sa'kin magpahinga muna
Lalabanan din mga dambuhalang
'Di maubos na problema
Malapit na, pero 'di rin kasalanang
Magpahinga
Ben&Ben is one of the country's hottest groups today.
The band popularized the songs “Kathang Isip” and “Maybe the Night,” among others.
A recent study by an Australia-based finance website touted “Kathang Isip” as the most valuable song on Spotify in the Philippines.
The hit track, according to the report, was streamed 130,489,805 times, raking in $639,400 or P30.8 million based on estimated figures.
