Bettinna Carlos shared the remarkable story behind her twin pregnancy, recalling how what began as a routine ultrasound turned into one of the biggest surprises of her life.
In an Instagram post, Bettinna said her doctor in La Union advised her to undergo an ultrasound a week after learning she was pregnant because of her history of ectopic pregnancy.
"A week after we found out I was pregnant, my OB from La Union ordered for me to have an ultrasound to check for viability (because of my history of ectopic pregnancy)," she wrote.
During the scan, the attending physician first delivered reassuring news.
“Congratulations! It's not ectopic.”
Moments later, however, the doctor noticed something unexpected.
“And then after maybe 2 seconds, she moved the ultrasound probe and said: 'Hold on. Parang I see two…'”
Shocked by the possibility, Bettinna immediately messaged her husband, Mikki Eduardo, who was waiting outside with their two daughters.
The doctor then took a closer look.
“Let me check if may laman.”
According to Bettinna, another gestational sac was found, complete with a tiny embryo that already had a heartbeat at six weeks.
She later learned that the babies were conceived separately.
“Our twins were not from the same egg. In fact, they were not fertilized at the same time (hence the difference in size). Google calls it 'Superfetation twins'. We call it a miracle.”
Her doctor explained, “Nauna yung isa, sumunod yung pangalawa pero sabay silang lalabas.”
Bettinna admitted the discovery was "probably the biggest shock of our lives," adding that the experience reminded her of both "God's humor and power."
She also revealed that while she once dreamed of having twins as a child, she never expected it to happen because neither she nor Mikki has a family history of twins.
Instead, Bettinna said she quietly prayed to have sons after giving birth to two daughters.
"And lo and behold, we have twins and both are boys. God really did give us 2 (boys) like I prayed for and He gave them to us as twins - something I did not even pray for."
"What a miracle Lord. Wala Ka talagang limit. Thank you for our boys.," she added.
