Jennie Kim shares what being part of the upcoming series 'The Idol' means to her.

This year is turning out to be quite eventful for K-pop star Jennie Kim of girl group BLACKPINK.

She is still with the ongoing BLACKPINK Born Pink World Tour after being among the headliners of Coachella 2023, making them the first Korean act to headline the music festival.

Jennie also made her debut at the Met Gala 2023 and Cannes Film Festival 2023, sealing her spot as a Hollywood star.

One of their highly-anticipated projects is appearing in the HBO series The Idol co-created by Sam Levinson of Euphoria and Abel "The Weeknd'' Tesfaye.

In an interview with Women's Wear Daily, Jennie talks about having all eyes on her now that she's making her acting debut.

“It's overwhelming, but I'm grateful and thankful. All of those things at the same time,” said the star, who is better known by her first name. “Especially as it's the first step in my acting career, I was honored to be able to come.”

She also revealed she's a fan of The Idol's co-creator Sam Levinson, who also created Euphoria. "I've been admiring Sam's work for a very long time,” Jennie said.

“I trusted Sam to be collaborative with all the scenes that we would be working on together, because it was about the industry. The fact that it was about the music industry fascinated me, and I thought I could bring something to the role,” she added.

Being a Korean pop idol herself, Jennie has what it takes to play her role.

“It was an opportunity to just be myself and be brave. I didn't really train for it, or prep anything,” Jennie said, describing the acting process. “Sam wanted me to just be myself.”

Being an actress is also a new direction in her career as a pop star. “It definitely was a challenge, because I've never experienced anything like that before. It was like breaking a wall for me.”

Jennie also spoke fondly of her co-star Lily Rose-Depp, “She really helped me a lot. Telling me about scenes, and it was very comforting to have her there.”

The two female stars are also both Chanel ambassadors, giving them time to become close. “She just taught me to express myself and be comfortable with myself, to not be scared.”

The Idol follows Depp's evolution from an average girl to a famous celebrity which coincides with her relationship with Tesfaye's character. The trailers described the series as “the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood,” promising an edgy take on fame's enticing yet dark side.

It also stars Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Rachel Sennott, Dam Levy, Sophia Mudd, among other celebrities.

The Idol will premiere on June 4.
