Bogart the Explorer

Bogart the Explorer met a freak accident while surfing in February and he almost lost the ability to walk on his feet again.

YouTube star Bogart the Explorer, or Marco Ho in real life, is back at the lineup nine months after his surfboard's fin lacerated his right leg in a freak accident.

Bogart had to undergo multiple surgeries, blood transfusions, and a series of physical therapies after meeting an unfortunate incident while surfing back in February. The internet sensation, however, remained positive and in fact, displayed speedy progress in his recovery.

By May, he got back on his skateboard despite not being fully mobile. He also claimed that he had no plans to quit surfing.

His determination and relentlessness have paid off as he finds himself riding the waves again in November.

He posted a photo from his surf session in Surigao del Sur, and declared, “I AM BACK!

“They say that what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, so just as a new life is born from a mother's womb, 9 months since the accident, I have come back to life and am once again back to the very place on the very thing that nearly ended it. Maybe not stronger, but certainly not weaker.”

Bogart admitted that his accident has caused him a great amount of fear but he just wouldn't let it get in the way of living his life.

A part of his caption read, “As someone who's naturally shy and has a closeted fear of public speaking, I can say I've made my living out of facing fear. That there is gold to be made in places where most people are afraid to go.

“I'm not looking for a prize though. I'm just looking to be me. I love to surf and no amount of fear can stop me from going back into that water.”

He also imparted the lessons he learned from his accident and his journey to recovery.

“Don't quit because it's hard or you're afraid, mates. Quit because it sucks. And surfing definitely does not suck,” he said.

I AM BACK! 🤙 They say that what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, so just as a new life is born from a mother's womb, 9 months since the accident, I have come back to life and am once again back to the very place on the very thing that nearly ended it. Maybe not stronger, but certainly not weaker. It's unreasonable to think that what had happened has not left some effect on me. Within just a centimeter of having an artery cut in my leg, the surfboard fin could have landed on my neck, or head, or gut and i'd have been floating on that water with my intestines hanging out. It put a kind of fear in me that would make most people completely avoid that which has caused that fear. As someone who's naturally shy and has a closeted fear of public speaking, I can say I' ve made my living out of facing fear. That there is gold to be made in places where most people are afraid to go. I'm not looking for a prize though. I'm just looking to be me. I love to surf and no amount of fear can stop me from going back into that water. Don't quit because it's hard or you're afraid, mates. Quit because it sucks.
