It's a retro Friday for ARMYs as BTS member V released his '90s-inspired music video titled "FRI(END)S" on YouTube, last March 15.
Directed by renowned British photographer and director Samuel Bradley, the newly released video portrays V as a conflicted protagonist experiencing love from two different perspectives.
In the beginning of the video, the K-pop singer was depicted as a single guy who's surrounded by couples wherever he went.
In the second part, he's seen with a girl, portrayed by British star Ruby Sear, as they sweetly hang out in various places while people constantly fight around them.
What made the video's narrative intriguing was that both stories end tragically, with V getting involved in a car accident.
The music video concluded with both versions of the artist waking up in the same bed, with V smiling in front of the camera.
Aside from the video, the song captured fans' attention with its heartwarming melody. Serenading a sweet message about wanting to put an end to "friends," the song evoked feelings of love as it also highlighted V's deep vocals, satisfying bass play, and lo-fi drum beats.
Within a few hours, "FRI(END)S" trended on X and YouTube, garnering over 1 million views in less than two hours since its release.
V's latest digital song, "FRI(END)S," comes after the release of his debut solo album, Layover, which debuted in September 2023.
It's also his latest activity after collaborating with other artists like IU ("Love Wins All") and UMI ("wherever u r").
As a solo artist, he is known for his popular songs "Rainy Days,” “Love Me Again,” “Slow Dancing,” "Winter Bear," "Christmas Tree," and many more.
Currently, V is on hiatus from being a K-pop star with his fellow BTS members. The group will return in 2025 after fulfilling their mandatory military service in South Korea.
