Chito Miranda and Rivermaya

Chito Miranda holds on to the memories of their prime with Rivermaya and Eraserheads.

Parokya ni Edgar and its frontman Chito Miranda are excited more than ever now that Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical finally hit the theater stage last April 26.

Due to the soaring success of the show, Newport World Resorts hosted a Gala Night on May 2 attended by members of the press, creatives of the musical, and Parokya ni Edgar themselves.

In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, Chito Miranda shares his hopes for a Rivermaya-inspired musical following the success of Ang Huling El Bimbo The Musical featuring the music of Eraserheads and Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical.

“I'm really looking forward [na] sana [ay] gawan nila ng musical ang Rivermaya [...] kasi parang noong '90s, kaming tatlo (PNE, Eraserheads, and Rivermaya) 'yung parang -- [hindi] naman naglalaban-laban -- pero there was a time na sabay-sabay talaga kami palagi,” Chito said.

This prompted the frontman to reminisce his prime with Parokya ni Edgar, Eraserheads, and Rivermaya back in the '90s when they would always perform in one place and play their music to OPM fans.

Chito said, “Even at the smallest venues, we were always together with Rivermaya. [They were] also one of the first bands na kinuhang front act ng Parokya [ni Edgar], and we're such big fans [of Rivermaya].”

“It would be great. Mas lalo na [dahil] ang dami nilang mga kanta na iba-iba rin 'yung tema. I think it's going to be a fun show,” he added.

Aside from his hopes to see a Rivermaya-inspired musical, Chito also shared his delight about the soaring success of Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical, and invites everyone, even non-theater and non-OPM fans, to watch the show.

“Even if you're not a theater fan -- actually, even if you're not a Parokya fan -- it's going to be a wild, fun ride na puwede mong i-take as a novelty show [at] puwede mo ring i-take na sobrang lalim na [story] na tackles super important [and] almost-taboo topics.”

Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical is set to run until June 2024, and tickets are available via TicketWorld and SM Tickets.
