Matapos ang trahedyang nangyari sa dalawang stundent-athletes ng Ateneo de Manila University na sina Rene Baterbonia at Divine Adili, nagbigay ng mensahe ng suporta ang dating atleta ng unibersidad at iBilib host na si Chris Tiu sa iba pang players nito.LINK:

“My message to the Ateneo players is to stay strong and know that we are with you. I am praying for you and have been praying for you guys; I know what you've gone through,” sabi ni Chris sa panayam ng Fast Talk with Boy Abunda sa naganap na “Be Juan Tama Talks” nitong Lunes, June 22.

Dagdag pa niya, “It's extremely, extremely difficult; just know that we are with you and praying for you, we're all behind you.”

Si Chris ay dating miyembro ng Ateneo Blue Eagles simula 2003 hanggang 2008.

Namatay sina Baterbonia at Adili sa pagkalunod habang nasa team-building activity, na isinagawa sa Dipaculao, Aurora, noong June 8.

Sa pahayag ng Ateneo, sinabi nilang i-e-examine ng multi-stakeholder body na kinabibilangan ng Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP), University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), at ng National Youth Commission (NYC) ang “existing policies, protocols, and training practices toward resolutions to strengthen safeguards in athletic training environments.”

“The goal is not only to understand what happened, but to ensure that lessons learned lead to safer, more responsive systems that protect athletes while sustaining high-performance sport. Excellence in sport requires environments that push human potential, but never at the expense of safety,” sabi ng komisyon sa kanilang pahayag.

Ngayong Miyerkules, June 24, ihahatid sa huli niyang hantungan si Rene, samantalang inilipad naman ang mga labi ni Divine pabalik ng Nigeria kahapon, June 23.
