Mama Lulu

Filipina content creator Mama Lulu recalls her early years in the United States.

Internet's Pinay mom Lulu Balgos, better known as Mama Lulu, shares an inspiring story about her early years in the USA.

In a recent social media post, the US-based content creator posted a throwback photo from her time working in the medical field as a nursing assistant.

"I do miss those days sometimes. I had to think about money for my husband's dialysis and my children, but it was rewarding," she wrote in the captions.

Mama Lulu also reflected on the challenges she faced after moving from the Philippines to the United States.

"After moving from the Philippines to the US, I worked retail part time. A co-worker who became my best friend referred me to work at the department of labor in San Francisco. I pretended I knew how to type. Fake it until you make it. Unfortunately, 9/11 happened. I got laid off," she shared.

Despite the setback, Mama Lulu remained determined to pursue her dream of working in healthcare.

"So I thought, why not become what I always wanted to do? I had to study and get my certification to become a nursing assistant. I relied on my unemployment checks for my tuition fee. Just imagine 30 plus years of being a housewife and catering food. It was a tough change. I was a single Mom in a foreign country," she added.

"Instead of moving up as a registered nurse, I chose to become a caregiver, mostly for hospice patients. Eventually, my husband passed. My body also gave out physically, so I had to stop."

Looking back on her journey, Mama Lulu said she wouldn't change the experiences that shaped her life.

"Regardless of the challenges, I wouldn't change the experience for anything," she concluded.

Mama Lulu is widely known for her humorous videos featuring her playful banter with her children, earning her a loyal following on social media.

In October 2025, she returned to the Philippines for the first time in 18 years, documenting her family's adventures as they explored different destinations across the country.
