David Licauco

With his continuing popularity, David Licauco says he's looking for a sustainable acting career.

Kapuso actor David Licauco may have been part of GMA Network for years but his rise to popularity came when he played the role of Fidel in the hit fantasy-portal series Maria Clara at Ibarra. While the actor is thankful for the opportunity to play the role, he said that he does not want to be a 'one-hit wonder' and have a sustainable acting career instead.

“Siguro like what I don't want lang to happen is like you know, be like a one-hit wonder. You know, like umangat 'yung career ko because of Fidel but that's it,” the actor said in an interview on the Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast.

He added that while other celebrities might be satisfied with getting one huge project, the Pambansang Ginoo said that he wants to have “a sustainable career na sana ma-keep up ko 'yung what I have right now.”

“'Cause I mean, who does not want that?” he said.

In a post on Instagram, David expressed how he considers his role as Fidel in the hit series as his biggest blessing in 2022, while his co-stars Barbie Forteza and Dennis Trillo encouraged him.

With Maria Clara at Ibarra nearing the end of its run, will fans still see the Pambansang Ginoo in the near future?

“Well I have 'yung movie namin ni Shaira Diaz, it's coming out on February 15,” he answered.

Last December, David teased a new role that he will be doing for the movie Without You with Shaira Diaz. The movie will tell the story of Axel, a DJ who falls in love with Ria and how they fall in and out of love with each other.

David also revealed that he and Barbie might star together in a movie and a series.

“I heard din na magkakaroon ulit kami ng teleserye ni Barbie. I heard lang ah, wala pang sigurado,” he clarified.
