
Derrick Monasterio recently marked a career milestone with his portrayal of Crisostomo Ibarra in the musical Ibarra... Ngayon.
In an Instagram post, the Kapuso actor shared a series of photos of himself performing as Ibarra on stage, along with a heartfelt message reflecting on the experience and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to portray the iconic character.
"Most challenging role to date," he began.
"But I'm fortunate enough to be surrounded by the best production staff, actors, directors and teachers," he shared.
Derrick also took the opportunity to thank his co-actors and mentors for welcoming him with open arms.
"Your excellence pushed me to be better. You treated me like family. You gave me confidence every time I have doubts," he continued.
"Direk Frannie, thank you for noticing my talent. Thank you for entrusting me with this role. Thank you for giving me the freedom to explore Crisostomo. Thank you for being real and honest as well," he expressed.
The actor also shared that he was touched when director Frannie told him that he had first noticed Derrick through his singing videos on Instagram, which eventually led to him landing the role of Ibarra.
"Sir Jomar, with your talent and passion, you gave us Ibarra ngayon. Highlighting Crisostomo's love for the country, and somehow the storytelling has a huge reflection on what's happening right now in our country," he said.
"Sir Jed, your music is just Immaculate. As actors, you made acting so much easier with your beautiful and painful melodies. As a baritone, ang hirap talaga e."
He also thanked Maryanne for her care and support throughout the production.
Before concluding his post, Derrick also expressed his gratitude to his fellow cast members.
"To my co-actors, Andrea, Kevin, Ate Dea, Sheila, Aira, Joseph, Bon, Jay, Vince, Dianne, Sir Naz, Papa Neil, Kuya Ariel, Marky, Sir Kiko, Jay, Thea, Marvs, Jerome, Mondrian, Elian, Ever, Ate Marlyn, Brother Ron, Makoy (sorry if may nakalimutan), Grabe mahal na mahal ko kayo. Ang huhusay niyo kaya nakakahiyang hindi sumabay. See you all real soon," he said.
Derrick also announced that the production will return from July to August.
"Magkita kita po ulit tayo. Announcements will be made on the Tanghalang Una Obra social media accounts," he said.
"Salamat sa pics, bro, paka-talented mo talaga @itsjaymangui," he concluded.
Recently, Derrick wrapped up his stint as Marco in the GMA Afternoon Prime series Apoy sa Dugo, which aired its finale on June 19.
He starred alongside Elle Villanueva, Ashley Ortega, Pinky Amador, Ricardo Cepeda, Thea Tolentino, Patricia Coma, Larkin Castor, Cai Cortez, Fonzi, and Toniyuh.
