In an Instagram post, actor Epy Quizon shared the joyous news of his graduation, accompanied by a photo of himself in his De La Salle University graduation toga.
The post served as a heartfelt message to his younger self, marking the fulfillment of a promise to earn his degree, a goal thirty years in the making.
“Dear Self, Thirty years ago, in 1996, you walked the halls of De La Salle University just a thesis away from graduation,” Epy wrote in the caption.
He candidly shared that there was a time when fear and difficult circumstances forced him to put his education on hold.
“Fear and circumstance pulled you away, and survival became more important than ceremony,” he shared.
He emphasized that he had made a vow to himself to pursue his dream, noting that despite the demands of his career and other responsibilities, the desire to graduate remained steadfast in his heart.
“But you made a promise. Through work, loss, responsibility, and time, that promise stayed quietly in your heart,” Epy expressed.
The message took an emotional turn as Epy lamented that his late father, the veteran actor Dolphy, was unable to witness this milestone: “Dad didn't get to see this day. Mama, turning 80 soon, will.”
Epy also noted that returning to his studies has made him a different person, finally fulfilling a dream that had stayed with him for decades.
“Today, you return—not as the young man who left, but as someone steadier, stronger, and faithful to his word,” he wrote.
In a separate post, Quizon delved into the deeper meaning of his achievement, characterizing his graduation as both the fulfillment of a lifelong promise to himself and a testament of inspiration for his family.
“You did not just graduate. You fulfilled a promise. You honored your father's memory. You gave your mother the gift of completion. You showed your siblings that perseverance runs in your shared blood. You proved to your children that a vow, no matter how delayed, is sacred,” Epy wrote.
He further emphasized that the diploma he received is far more than a simple piece of paper; it represents the lasting legacy he will leave behind for his children.
“This diploma is more than paper. It is integrity made visible. It is endurance framed on a wall. It is the legacy you leave po [to your] children and that it is never too late to finish what you start, never too late to rise again, never too late to become the person you once promised to be,” he shared.
Epy also expressed his gratitude to the university and to his 'soulmate,' whom he credited as one of the primary inspirations behind his decision to persevere.
“To De La Salle University, thank you for keeping the light on, for welcoming back a son who needed time to grow into his calling. Your halls were patient. Your spirit enduring,” Epy wrote.
He continued, “To your soulmate, your truest inspiration, thank you for believing in the version of him that sometimes doubted himself. You stood beside him not just in celebration, but in quiet persistence. This victory is yours too.”
The actor did not forget to offer his gratitude to the Almighty, whom he described as the “author” of his long but beautiful journey.
And above all, to God, the Author of this long and beautiful story, thank You for a life filled with second chances, for strength when fear was loud, for grace when time felt lost, and for the gift of seeing a promise bloom after thirty years.
Even as he worked toward his degree, Epy continued to showcase his range as a performer, most recently starring in the GMA Prime hits Pulang Araw and Black Rider.
