Using social media seems inevitable these days.
For Kapuso actress Max Collins, social media is a means to share bits and pieces of her life as well as promote her work as a television and movie actress.
At the same time, she tries to keep some level of privacy.
"I don't like posting real time. I don't like people knowing what I'm doing and where I am all the time. I still like having my privacy," Max says in an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com.
She has nothing against people who choose to share their lives online, but reiterates that there is safety in privacy.
"If people wanna do that, then that's up to them. That's their decision, right?
“I don't think that's the safest thing to do because nowadays you can get all sorts of information on your social media," she says.
The Bihag actress adds, "At least always be cautious. Be aware because you never know who's following you, who could be stalking you. It's always better to be safe.”
Most social media sites have very customizable privacy settings to give users more control on who gets access to what they post.
"Don't assume you have to take whatever default settings the site gives you.
“Check out the settings, configuration and privacy sections to see what options you have to limit who and what groups can see various aspects of your personal information," writes Network World.
It is also a good idea to consider turning off location services or geotagging.
"Many apps and websites on smartphones and devices are set to share your location by default. You have to actively disable location services and edit the file's metadata to stop sharing your location," explains The Critical Thinking Child.
Strong and unique passwords are a good precaution to keep hackers from mining information from your social media accounts.
"Having separate passwords for every account helps to thwart cybercriminals. At a minimum, separate your work and personal accounts and make sure that your critical accounts have the strongest passwords," warns Stay Safe Online.
