
Korean singer Chanyeol's management SM Entertainment has taken legal action against netizens who spread false rumors regarding the K-pop star.
Korean media outlets including Soompi reported that SM Entertainment is coordinating with the police to track down the identity of the netizens who circulated rumors and insulted Chanyeol and other SM artists on social media.
A statement from SM Entertainment says, “We sued those who spread false rumors about Chanyeol, and as far as we know, the police have identified those who were accused and forwarded them to the prosecution with a recommendation for indictment.
“This is just one of the cases of infringement on our artists' rights, which the agency is consistently taking legal action for. We are taking legal action against the spread of false rumors, insult, and more regarding our artists, including Chanyeol."

The netizens are said to have fabricated malicious rumors connected to sexual harassment, and made insults against Chanyeol and his family. Chanyeol's fans have been collecting evidence since 2015 to help support his lawsuit.
A rumor from October 2020 involving a woman who claimed to be Chanyeol's ex-girlfriend circulated, accusing Chanyeol of infidelity.

In February 2021, Chanyeol opened up to his fans through a letter, assuring them that they were never wrong in trusting him and he cleared his name from the attacks made about his personal life.
He wrote, "I will do my best to make it clear that you were not wrong to believe in me. It's a day later, but I once again sincerely thank all those who always remembered my first start.. and now that time has passed, congratulated me on my ninth anniversary."

Currently, Chanyeol is serving as an active duty soldier as part of the mandatory military duty of male Korean citizens. He enlisted in the military on March 29 and will serve for 18 months. He is the fifth member of EXO to enlist in the military after Xiumin, D.O, Suho and Chen.
EXO is set to make a comeback this June with a special album called Don't Fight the Feeling.
Teasers released from EXO's social media showed that Chanyeol participated in the album preparations ahead of his military enlistment.
