Korean boy band EXO has confirmed their group's comeback through a teaser video for a new music video in celebration of their upcoming 9th anniversary. EXO's music agency, SM Entertainment, has also released an official statement about the group's comeback.
In March, news of EXO's album preparations circulated online, suggesting member Chanyeol had participated in the album prior to his military enlistment on March 29.
On April 8, EXO finally dropped a teaser video of their upcoming music which hinted at their comeback this year. The new music is a surprise gift for their fans just in time for their 9th anniversary.
EXO members also filmed a video greeting for their fans with the clip titled L-1485 SPOILER. EXO members Xiumin, Baekhyun, Kai, D.O, Chanyeol, and Sehun said in the clip that they are currently filming the music video for their new song.
They gave a sneak peek of the music video set, unveiling what looks like an aircraft carrier inside a green screen studio. Chanyeol said that it's specifically an aircraft carrier in space.
Kai and D.O also shared a clue for what the music video will be about. They said that in the music video for their 2017 track "Power," they ended the video going their separate ways. For their upcoming music video, they will be reunited.
Kai also added that they are filming the first verse and the chorus of the song.
Chanyeol then showed markings on their music video set, E-408 and L-1485. The "E" stands for EXO and the "408" is the date of their debut anniversary in number format: April 8. The "L" signifies EXO-L, EXO's fan club, and 1485 indicates the EXO fandom's foundation date, August 5, 2014.
EXO's last project was in November 2019 when they released their sixth full-length album, OBSESSION.
