Sophie Albert shares post-pregnancy struggles; reveals baby 'had a lot of water in her lungs'

By Dianara Alegre

Kapuso actress Sophie Albert shared her struggles during and after her pregnancy with her firstborn, Avianna Abrenica.

During her pregnancy, the first-time mom shared that she experienced depression as she needed to rest since her uterus kept on contracting.

“And also, being stuck at home. It kinda got me feeling really sad. I feel felt like I had a little bit of…I don't know if it's depression, but I feel l did get depressed at some point when I was pregnant. My routine, like being able to work out, I was so active before I got pregnant, I couldn't do that anymore. There were just so many things that I couldn't do,” she said in an interview with GMA News Online.

Sophie gave birth to baby Avianna on March 15 via C-section, something she was not prepared for, which added to a number of her worries.

She then shared that baby Avianna also had to stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) since she had a lot of water in her lungs.

"It was a whole night na I couldn't see her. So pinilit ko talaga to stand up and to be able to go down to the NICU. I was in so much pain. My BP went so low, I almost fainted. They had to carry me with the stretcher back to my bed,” she said.

But despite the difficulties of being a first-time mom, Sophie said that she feels more empowered now.

"I feel more empowered as a mom now. And we really try to make this whole parenthood journey fun. I feel so much love for her that I never thought I would feel for anyone. Even as I say it, parang naiiyak ako kasi I love her so much,” she added.

Sophie is in a relationship with her longtime boyfriend, actor Vin Abrenica. After eight years of being together, they got pregnant, got engaged, and started a new life by moving into a new house.

“Our relationship was so steady and then everything just happened all at the same time during a pandemic. If it were up to us, it probably wouldn't happen when it happened. I guess it was the push we needed to take our relationship to the next level,” she related.
