JC de Vera and Shaina Magdayao bring the characters of Florante and Laura to life in a new film adaptation of Francisco Balagtas' literary classic, which unveiled its official trailer on October 10 at the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) in Busan, South Korea.
Produced by FEAST Foundation, Florante and Laura, with the campaign theme “Love, our last revolution,” also stars Royce Cabrera as Aladin, Gillian Vicencio as Flerida, Kristof Garcia as Minandro, and Brian Sy as Adolfo.
Written for the screen and directed by Alvin Yapan, the film reintroduces the beloved Filipino literary work to a new generation, bringing its themes of love, betrayal, prejudice, and the struggle against division to the big screen.
While Florante at Laura has long been a staple in Philippine classrooms, the new adaptation seeks to connect its timeless story with issues that remain relevant today, including faith, identity, power, and compassion amid conflict.
At its heart is a story of love that refuses to surrender to power, prejudice, or despair, challenging audiences to reflect on whom they trust, what they stand for, and whether compassion can prevail in a world shaped by hatred.
The trailer was launched at ACFM, introducing the film to an international audience of film buyers, distributors, sales agents, festival programmers, and media representatives.
