This Sunday, FPJ Sa GMA is set to take another restored classic of The King of Philippine Movies, Fernando Poe Jr., into the spotlight.
FPJ Sa GMA will feature the award-winning 1984 film Ang Padrino, which the late legendary action star co-wrote, produced, and directed. It received the Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Picture awards in the 1985 Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards.
The movie follows Emong Sanchez (Fernando Poe Jr.), a respected town elder who peacefully resolves conflicts as a padrino, or godfather-like figure. But when corrupt powers abuse their authority and terrorize the innocent, Emong is forced to abandon diplomacy. As the justice system fails, he becomes a fearless avenger, fighting to protect his community and restore peace.
Also starring in Ang Padrino is seasoned actress Coney Reyes, who played Tiaong Sanchez. It is also notable for the casting of radio personality Rey Langit as an antagonist in the film, portraying a hired assassin.
Watch Ang Padrino on FPJ Sa GMA this Sunday, April 20, 3:15 p.m. on GMA.
