Because of his sedentary lifestyle, Albert Goquingco weighed 220 lbs while his waistline was 38 inches. For his height of 5 feet and 8 inches, he was considered obese.
He got married in 2012 and the birth of his first child made him rethink his health.
"How could you keep up? Lalo na kapag tumanda 'yan. Madali pa nga 'yan pagka three years old, four years old. Pero paano pagka 'yung mga 10 [years old]? Mas active na 'yan. Mas nag-aaya na. It's more of the health [considerations] na tipong para makapag keep up sa mga anak, para magawa ko 'yung nagagawa ko dati with my kids," he explains.
He started with daily walks which then turned to long jogs. He also went to the gym five times a week.
"Kaya naman pala at my age. Nag-start ako 35 or 36 [years old ako]. Before, I was doubting. 'Huwag na. Wala na 'yan.' Kaya naman palang gawin basta tyatyagain mo. Hindi siya shortcut. It will take time talaga pero magagawa kung sa magagawa," he encourages.
After three years, he was able to reach his ideal weight of 145 lbs.
Now, Albert does high-intensity workouts three times a week and combines it with calisthenics. He even joined and finished the Spartan Race twice!
"Suggestion ko, huwag biglain. Kasi 'pag binigla mo, parang shocker 'yun eh. para sa mga newbie katulad ko dati or novice, aayawan mo kasi sa totoo lang mahirap. Gradual lang na hindi muna high intensity agad. You will get there eh. Novice ka pa lang pepwersahin mo agad ng high intensity. Babalik ka talaga sa dati," he shares.
