Filipino theater actress Gerardine Sacdalan is set to lead the Manila cast of 'Heathers the Musical,' which will make its Philippine debut in January 2027.

Filipino theater performer Gerardine Sacdalan is set to take on the role of Veronica Sawyer in the Philippine theater debut of Heathers the Musical in January 2027.

Gerardine will lead the Manila cast of the darkly comic musical, which will run from January 21 to February 7, 2027, at The Theatre at Solaire in Parañaque City.

Presented by GMG Productions in association with Bill Kenwright Ltd. and Paul Taylor-Mills, the Manila production follows sold-out runs in London, New York, and Melbourne.

Gerardine was nominated for Best Professional Debut at the 10th anniversary of the WhatsOnStage Awards for her performance as Juliet in the UK tour of & Juliet.

She has also appeared as Sandra Beaumont in Made in Dagenham in Concert at The London Palladium and as Frenchie in Grease: The Immersive Musical at Battersea Park.

Joining Gerardine in the Manila cast are Louis Hearsey as Jason “J.D.” Dean, Liberty Stottor as Heather Chandler, Jessica Ibadin as Heather Duke, and Lou Henry as Heather McNamara.

The cast also features Veronica Carabai as Ms. Fleming and Veronica's Mom; Sophie Manners as Martha Dunnstock; Markus Södergren as Kurt Kelly; Beau Jackson as Ram Sweeney; John Gurdían as Ram's Dad, Big Bud Dean, and Coach Ripper; and Reuben Browne as Kurt's Dad, Veronica's Dad, and Principal Gowan.

Based on the 1989 film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, Heathers the Musical is set at Westerberg High and follows Veronica Sawyer, an unpopular student who unexpectedly becomes part of the school's elite after being taken under the wing of the three powerful and cruel Heathers.

However, Veronica's newfound popularity takes a darker turn when she meets J.D., a rebellious student who draws her into a dangerous relationship.

The musical explores themes of popularity, friendship, identity, and the consequences of trying to fit in.

The production features music and lyrics by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O'Keefe, with songs including “Seventeen,” “Candy Store,” “Meant to Be Yours,” “I Say No,” and “Dead Girl Walking.”

Andy Fickman directs the production, with choreography by Gary Lloyd. The creative team also includes David Shields for design, Ben Cracknell for lighting, Dan Samson for sound, and Jeremy Wootton and Will Joy for musical supervision.

Heathers the Musical premiered in Los Angeles in 2013 before moving to New York's New World Stages in 2014. A reimagined production opened in London in 2018, featuring new songs and an updated script.

The musical went on to have multiple West End seasons and UK and Ireland tours. A filmed version was also released and streamed globally in 2022.

For its Manila run, the production is recommended for audiences aged 14 and above. It contains strong language and mature themes, including murder, suicide, sexual violence, and references to eating disorders. The show also features haze, loud noises, gunshots, flashing lights, and strobe effects.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on September 13. UnionBank cardholders can access a presale from September 8 to 11, followed by a waitlist onsale on September 12. Both the presale and waitlist onsale will offer a 10 percent discount.
