Gloc 9 and Francis Magalona

Gloc-9 posts a heartwarming throwback photo of him with Francis M.

Rap icon Gloc-9 posted a simple tribute to celebrate Francis Magalona's birthday.

The master rapper would've been 58 today, October 4.

Though it's been 13 years since he passed away from acute myelogenous leukemia, he remains a prominent figure in the local music industry and is highly regarded by other artists.

Gloc-9 is one of the musicians who expressed his admiration for the late Filipino King of Rap.

"Happy birthday in Heaven," one comment from a netizen read.

Francis M was an acclaimed rapper, singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, actor, and TV personality. He began his career in the 1980s as a breakdancer, rapper, DJ, and actor.

In 1990, he released Yo!, the first commercially launched Filipino rap album which had popular singles including "Mga Kababayan" and "Cold Summer Nights." Among his other greatest hits are "Mga Kababayan Ko," and "Kaleidoscope World."

He was also one of the original members of the youth-oriented show That's Entertainment and a host of Eat Bulaga and a VJ for MTV Asia and Channel V.

He also established a clothing line named FMCC (FrancisM Clothing Co.) which is sold in stores called 3 Stars & A Sun.

In 2009, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts recognized Francis with a posthumous Presidential Medal of Merit. The award had been given "for his musical and artistic brilliance, his deep faith in the Filipino, and his sense of national pride that continue to inspire us."
