By Aedrianne Acar

Last night, President Rodrigo Duterte announced via a televised address that the government will be placing Metro Manila under “community quarantine."

The said measure that will last from March 15, 2020 to April 14, 2020 aims to contain, if not stop the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 that has been officially declared as “pandemic” by the World Health Organization (WHO).

In a tweet, multi-awarded news anchor and documentarist Kara David stressed that contracting COVID-19 is “not a death” sentence and there are more patients diagnosed with the disease that fully recover.

“Being diagnosed with COVID 19 is NOT a death sentence. If you're healthy, 98% of the time, you will make a full recovery - Dr. Edsel Salvana, infectious disease specialist”

Meanwhile, award-winning reporter Atom Araullo also tweeted some friendly reminders to people on how to protect themselves from the coronavirus.

He also stressed that the government should implement measures to assist those underprivileged folks who don't have the means to protect themselves from COVID-19.

Atom said, “Sadly but unsurprisingly, the underprivileged are most at risk. Those of us with the means should do everything we can to stem the spread of COVID-19. Hoping authorities have adequate measures in place to ease the inevitable burden on the poor.”
