From game streaming to vlogging? 'Game naman ako' says Myrtle Sarrosa

By Bong Godinez

Cosplayer and new Kapuso star, singer-songwriter and actress Myrtle Sarrosa, is not your average video gamer.

The 25-year-old Iloilo native is an accomplished gamer having competed abroad and even earning the distinction as the only Filipina to barge into the Top 100 Ragnarok Gamers in Southeast Asia.

Those are the reasons why she is one of the most followed game streamers in the country.

It's also fair to say that some, if not most, of her fans, got into hosting their own game streaming channels because of her.

And with eSports and game streaming channels continuing to grow, the competition is only about to get stiffer in the coming years.

So how does Myrtle keep her gaming channel fresh and competitive?

“Sa akin naman kasi 'yong gaming has always been a hobby. Hindi ko siya iniisip as kailangan ko magkaroon ng viewers, hindi ko siya iniisip na kailangan kong makipag-compete sa ibang tao,” she told GMANetwork.com during a Kapuso Brigade ZOOMustahan session.

Myrtle will hold a virtual concert titled “MYRTLE: Still Love Me” on November 28 to mark her 8th year in show business.

“Kasi at the end of the day, your biggest competition is yourself and hindi mo kailanagn maglaro ng games na sikat. Para sa akin, kung ano 'yong game na nagbibigay sa 'yo ng saya at ligaya i-share mo lang 'yong happiness mo by playing that game, by live streaming.”

Myrtle said that her followers know what to expect when they visit her channel. This includes the type of games that she'll likely be playing like Ragnarok and Among Us.

“Inaabangan nila 'yong mga game plays ko, 'yong strategies ko. So, hindi ko na masyadong iniisip 'yong makipag-compete sa iba basta I enjoy what I do and play while having fun.”

IS VLOGGING NEXT?

Surprisingly, Myrtle doesn't see herself launching a vlog soon - well, at least at the moment.

Vlogging, of course, is a hit among many celebrities today as it allows them to connect with their fans, gain sponsorship deals, and earn money as well.

Game streaming, while it also requires audience interaction, focuses more on the games being played while vlogging requires a more personal touch and more face time before the camera.

“'Yon nga 'yong problema ko kasi medyo mahiyain ako tapos hindi ako 'yong type of a person na may hawak lagi ng camera,” she said with a laugh.

“Ako 'yong tipo ng tao na 'pag sa labas, hindi ako masyadong mahilig mag-take ng pictures.

But as what they say, never say never.

“Pero hopefully kung ma-convince ako ng mga kasamahan ko. Siguro kung may mga kasama akong mag- vlog or kung for fun lang, game naman ako.

Meanwhile, Myrtle shared the Kapuso stars she would like to hopefully work with in the future.

“Kung sa gaming, gusto ko talaga makalaro si Alden [Richards] kasi same 'yong games na nilalaro namin. Nagra-Ragnarok din siya tapos nakita ko rin siya naglalaro ng Genshin Impact, so gusto ko siya makasama sa isang game streaming.”

She once again mentioned her desire to work with Ruru Madrid on a TV project.

“Kasi nung nagsta-start ako sa industry nanalo ako sa isang reality TV show tapos nanalo din siya sa isang reality TV show, and magkasabay kaming nag-start sa industry,” she recalled.

“As in mga 17 [years old] yata kami nung una ko siyang na-meet tapos naging friends na kami since then. So, gusto ko siyang makatrabaho hindi lang sa mga event but in a TV show.”

Don't miss “MYRTLE: Still Love Me” on November 28, 8:00 P.M. Tickets are available online via Ticket2Me.net.
