The celebrity doctor also revealed significant life lessons learned during the pandemic.

The relationship of celebrity doctor Vicki Belo and Hayden Kho had been through so much that both of them, at one point, thought that perhaps they're better off without each other.

“God is faithful if you follow what He says, which is to forgive,” Vicki told GMANetwork.com in a recent interview.

Vicki was alluding to the controversies that hounded their relationship during its early stages.

“'Yung nangyari sa amin ni Hayden, you know naman very dramatic 'yung aming buhay, maraming ups and downs.

“Honestly, give up na kaming dalawa na hindi mangyayari 'to sa amin kasi talagang ang dami ng history. But parang pinu-push kami lagi ni Lord to be together even if it didn't seem perfect to most people,” Vicki shared.

But even when they managed to sort things out, Vicki confessed feeling apprehensive at first to take another stab at marriage. A case of cold feet, perhaps?

“I was very, very scared to get married kasi feeling ko, 'Naku, ngayon hindi na ko makaalis, baka lalong mag-enjoy pa siya [Hayden],” said Vicki, referring to Hayden's past reputation as a ladies man.

“But I remember praying. So, the Lord said, 'You trust me you, lift it up to me,'” recalled Vicki.

Vicki's fears and misgivings turned out to be unfounded.

The couple had a glitzy wedding in Paris, France on September 2, 2017. Vicki and Hayden are blessed with a daughter, Scarlet Snow Belo.

“Since we've gotten married, he's become what I consider as an amazing husband and father.

“So my advice to people is to trust in the Lord, raise your problems up to the Lord. Of course, it doesn't mean that you don't have to try. You do your best like everything depends on you, but you pray and trust like everything depends on God.

“Because in the beginning I was trying to fix it all by myself and wala talagang nangyari. So there's really light at the end of the tunnel.”

Silver lining

Vicki also talked about important life realizations learned throughout the pandemic.

“I think it brought us back,” mused Vicki.

“Kasi before the pandemic parang ang busy-busy ng lives namin ni Hayden at saka kung ano-anong iniisip namin na importante.

“But now that the pandemic hit, parang nag-slow down tapos parang we have the realization na ang pinaka-importante lang naman is number one, you have to be healthy and number two, that our family and friends are safe.”

She continued, “We all have plans. We think that we're so magaling, we're so advanced already, and then this little virus that you can't even see was able to stop the world and make us get on our knees.

“God is still powerful and we are so tiny. So, let's not get mayabang that as human beings we've reached such an advanced stage because we can't even control this little virus.”

The uncertainty of the situation brought Vicki and her family “closer to God” and made them “pray more.”

Feeling grateful and appreciating life's blessings before and during the pandemic have also become a recurring theme in Vicki's present outlook.

“We really appreciate little things in life like not wearing a mask. 'Di ba, like for example we'll have a little dinner, we'll have antigen testing for everyone and everyone is safe and we can talk without wearing a mask, happy na happy na ko nun. Talagang you recalibrate what's important in life.”
