Having long, full lashes is always a good thing and has been a trend in beauty in the recent years.
Eyelash extensions, false lashes, and using mascara are popular ways to make the lashes appear longer and fuller.
If you want naturally thicker lashes, you can go easy on the falsies without having to keep using your mascara and eyelash curler.
Castor oil has been known as a miracle hair growth ingredient, and beauty experts suggest it can also be effective when it comes to achieving unbelievably thick and long lashes as well as bolder eyebrows!.
It is also known to prevent hair breakage and stimulate faster and thicker hair growth.
Cosmopolitan Magazine US interviewed Ilyse Haberman, MD, an ophthalmologist at NYU Langone Health, who explained how castor oil helps in giving fuller lashes
“Castor oil moisturizes your eyelashes and can make them appear thicker and have more luster,” Dr. Haberman said.
“It's also possible that it can help prevent lash breakage which, in turn, can lead to healthier growth.”
It is also packed with beneficial nutrients like proteins, minerals, and fatty acids, such as oleic, linoleic, stearic, and palmitic Ricinoleic Acids. It also contains natural compounds that promote hair growth.
Castor oil also has vitamin E that can help keep lashes strong, and ricinoleic Acid an omega-9 essential fatty acid that thickens your lashes and stimulates lash growth.
Although castor oil is a natural ingredient and an all-natural conditioner for the lashes, having an allergic reaction and irritation is still possible.
It's best to be careful not to put the castor oil so close to the eye and test the product first by applying some of it below the ear and on the neck before using it on the eyelids.
If no irritation occurs within 24 to 36 hours, it's safe to say castor oil can be used on your lashes and eyebrows too.
Take note not to sleep with castor oil on the eyes and wash it off before sleeping.
While castor oil comes in tubes similar to a mascara wand, you can also use a Q-tip and swipe a small amount of oil along your lashes.
