Korean singer IU's music video for her latest track "Celebrity" continues to touch hearts and rack up millions of views.
Korean singer IU has reached over seven million YouTube views for the music video of her latest track, "Celebrity" in less than 24 hours.
The song was released on January 27 as a pre-release track for her upcoming fifth full-length album.
Her previous full-length album Palette reached top charts in South Korea and was ranked the Best K-pop Album of the year by Billboard.
She has proven herself a successful and beloved solo act in the Korean music industry, with her album comeback highly anticipated -- especially after the success of her recent music, including lead single “Blueming” from her 2019 EP Love Poem and digital track “Eight” featuring BTS member Suga as rapper and producer.
IU's agency EDAM Entertainment described IU's upcoming new track in their press release as this: “It has a bright and cheerful pop sound that can energize those listening to it. It's a genre of music that IU is trying for the first time.
""Celebrity" was composed by Ryan S. Jhun, Jeppe London Bilsby, Lauritz Emil Christiansen, IU, Chloe Latimer, and Celine Svanback, the song's audio has an electronic pop genre with hints of summer house music. The lyrics were written by IU herself.
"The music video accompanying the track shows IU playing both a celebrity in classy gowns with jewelry and an average girl living a normal life. A chase between the two sides of IU is shown, although it's unclear who is chasing who until IU looks at her reflection in front of a mirror. At that moment she realizes she's both a celebrity and a regular girl.
"The song's lyrics deliver a message for compassion and support for people with unique personalities. Part of the song lyrics are translated in English as "Don't forget among the cloudy dark / You're a star painted with a left hand / Can't you see how beautiful / A true uniqueness can be / You are my celebrity."
IU revealed at the 35th Golden Disc Awards earlier this month during her acceptance speech that she has been preparing to release an album. She was named one of big winners at the Golden Disc Awards, taking home the Grand Prize known as the Digital Daesang, or the Digital Song of the Year.
