Living one's true and authentic self is never easy. It's a long and difficult journey that comes with many painful adjustments and decisions, especially when it comes to family.
That's exactly how Sparkle talent James Graham felt before deciding to embrace her authentic self with her family.
In an interview with GMANetwork.com, James recalled coming out as a member of the LGBTQIA++ community to some of her loved ones.
"When I came out to them, I think it's because I felt like I was growing up like lying to myself. It hurt every single day. As the day goes by, it kinda just hurts, like hiding who I actually am," she said.
Although she could already be herself around close friends, James said she still felt torn and exhausted from pretending around her family.
"So I came out to my family because I was like, 'Why am I kinda like two-sided, like bakit may dalawa akong personality? In front of my friends and in front of my family? Why can't I just be one?'" she shared.
The Sparkle artist had already come out to some of her family members before unexpectedly revealing herself on TikTok.
In the TikTok video, she revealed a more feminine look while lip-syncing to "The Sign" by Ace of Base. The clip carried the caption, "Start the new life you always wanted."
@brazillian.queef You don't have to be scared anymore. People will judge you regardless of who you are, so just live your life to the fullest. Do it out of kindness, not fear or hate. Don't let people dictate how you live your life.

Despite her fears about public opinion, James shared receiving a heartfelt message from one of her aunts.
"She was like, 'I'm so glad na nag-come-out ka. You're so brave'," James recalled, adding that her aunt admitted she already knew about it.
"She was just very nice. She told me that I was beautiful and I don't have to be scared anymore," she added.
Looking back on her journey from hiding her true self to finally being accepted for who she is, James shared a heartfelt message for her younger self.
"Everything that is happening to you right now, everything that was happening to you, it's always led you to where you're meant to be. You didn't have to be afraid of anything because it has led you to where you wanted to be, where you're meant to be," she said.
"You're gonna start loving yourself, taking care of yourself more, and thinking about yourself more. But you will never forget kindness and compassion."
James has been based in the United States since February 2025 and is pursuing a nursing degree.
In the Philippines, James Graham became known for her roles in the GMA series 'Love at First Read,' 'Royal Blood,' and 'Widows' War.'
