These past few months have been very challenging for GMA actress, Jo Berry, as she mourned the death of her father, grandfather, and brother, Perry Berry Jr., who is also her manager.
Prior to this heartbreaking event in Jo's life, her third series titled Little Princess had already been set to start its production.
Fortunately for her, the production of the program didn't force her to begin its taping as she needed time off to grieve. Jo Berry was grateful for such gesture.
In an interview with Gorgy Rula during Little Princess's virtual media conference on January 5, Jo shared, "Ang last na usap namin ng papa ko, ang sabi n'ya sa 'kin na ituloy ko 'yung laro ko which is 'yun [Little Princess] nga.
"Nabuo na po kasi 'yung Little Princess bago pa mawala 'yung family members ko and isa po 'yun sa tinandaan ko.
"And, at the same time, no'ng nag-usap po kami ng [production], nalaman ko na all-set na so isa po 'yun sa naging drive ko na alam ko lahat sila naghihintay for me.
"And, at the same time, thankful po ako kasi sinabi nila umpisang-umpisa pa lang na hindi ko kailangang ma-pressure na maintindihan nilang lahat kung mag-decide muna akong hindi muna gawin."
Reminded by her dad's last words to her, Jo eventually decided to continue to work on Little Princess, which is actually the last project that her brother-manager, Perry Jr., arranged for her, to honor his memory and his sacrifices.
When asked how she is dealing with the loss, Jo straightforwardly replied, "Mahirap po."
But just like what the character she portrays in Little Princess, the strong-willed actress remained steadfast and positive amid the sadness because of her loved ones' passing.
She continued, "Sabi ko nga po sa previous interviews ko na hindi na 'ko magiging completely okay like I was before no'ng nandito pa sila pero fighting naman po.
"Sabi ko nga po, iniisip ko na lang lagi 'pag nalulungkot ako, kailangan marami akong magandang maikwento sa kanila 'pag it's my time na to go home sa heaven.
"So ginagawa ko lang po every day na kapakipakinabangan and 'di po s'ya madali pero kailangan nating gawin."
To inspire hope, Jo then gave a piece of advice to those who are also experiencing grief during this time of pandemic.
"Huwag n'yo pong kakalimutan 'yung mga bagay hindi man natin maintindihan ang rason, mayroon pa ring rason 'yon kung bakit nararanasan 'yon.
"May mga bagay na nahihirapan tayo and feeling natin hindi na natin kayang harapin pero tandaan n'yo lang po na 'binigay sa 'tin 'yung mga mabibigat na 'yon dahil kaya nating harapin."
Jo plays the lead role in Little Princess named Princess.
Premiering on January 10 in GMA Afternoon Prime, the new GMA soap heralds the value of upholding one's self-worth, as exemplified by Princess, a young differently-abled lady and her rags-to-riches ascent to corporate leadership.
