John Rex took home the top prize in the inaugural “Sing My Song” competition on 'All-Out Sundays' after impressing the judges with his rendition of “Til' I Met You.”

John Rex emerged as the winner of the first-ever “Sing My Song” competition on All-Out Sundays after impressing the judges with his rendition of “Til' I Met You.”

His winning performance earned him a cash prize of P100,000.

OPM icon Dingdong Avanzado praised John Rex's vocal quality, emotional delivery, and fresh interpretation of the song.

“Gusto ko 'yung timbre mo, John Rex. There's a feeling na, 'yung kinakanta mo, tumatagos siya e. I love the way your voice soars and it's really piercing.

“I love the choice, the song 'Til I Met You' na version ng lalaki kasi familiar tayo sa version ni Kuh [Ledesma]. Pero 'yung sa'yo, I had a different experience listening to you sing it. And you're a really great singer, galing!”

Filipino composer Louie Ocampo also expressed his admiration for John Rex's performance, particularly his unique phrasing and interpretation.

“Alam n'yo, sumasakit ang ulo ko, kasi ang gagaling niyong lahat e. Ang galing. John, I didn't expect this. 'Yung phrasing ng pag-awit mo kanina was so unpredictable. You were giving your own interpretation for the song. I'm sure Kuh will be so proud of you. And then, you gave it a big bang in the ending. Beginning to end, ito na naman. Pasabog kayong lahat. Best of the best talaga dito sa 'Sing My Song.'”

Concert Queen Pops Fernandez likewise praised John Rex for making the song his own.

“Ako rin hindi ko expected, I was actually quite curious nung sinabi na Kuh Ledesma song but it will be sung by a male. So, John Rex, you turned it into your song. Napakaganda ng quality ng song mo. And just when I thought na, 'Naku, bibirit siya,' inatake mo differently.

“There is so much power, there is so much strength, and yet 'yung voice mo parang nag-f-float pa rin. There's so much feeling, there's so much emotion. Parang kapag pinapanood mo siya, parang para sa'kin lang 'yung kanta.”

After being declared the winner, John Rex admitted that he was nervous performing in front of the three judges but said their appreciation meant more to him than anything else.

“Ang totoo po talaga, kinakabahan po talaga ako sa inyong tatlo po. But I'm just so happy na napakinggan niyo po kaming lahat, at na-appreciate n'yo kaming lahat. Ito po ang pinakamalaking gift sa amin, na na-appreciate n'yo kami. Thank you so much,” he said.

Before his latest victory, John Rex had already made his mark in the local singing competition scene after being crowned the Grand Champion of The Clash Season 5 in 2023.

His win further cemented his reputation as a promising vocalist, and he continued showcasing his talent on the All-Out Sundays stage before eventually taking home the inaugural “Sing My Song” title.
