The City Government of Zamboanga has confirmed that the suspect in the shooting at the Junior High School campus of Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Barangay Tumaga on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, was among the two killed in the incident.

One other was wounded.

Based on the report from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) as of 2 p.m. on August 18, two died on the spot, including the shooter, while two others were brought to a hospital.

Only one of the two brought to the hospital was injured. The other experienced shortness of breath.

CDRRMO said its medical teams also attended to 21 students at the scene for panic attack, anxiety, and minor abrasions.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, as of this writing, to determine all circumstances involved.

The city government has urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information, rumors, photographs, and videos that may cause unnecessary alarm following a shooting incident.

“The public is advised to rely only on official advisories from the City Government, the police, the school management, and other authorized authorities,” the city government said.
