American singer-songwriter and six-time Grammy Award nominee Julia Michaels is going bigger this 2025 with the release of her newest extended play (EP), Second Self.
In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, Julia Michaels went deep with the explanation of the meaning and story about her newest project, which contains some of her earlier releases like “Heaven II," "Scissors" with Marren Morris, and "GFY.”
Julia told GMANetwork.com. “With this EP, it leans to a little bit more fun, leans to a little bit more free, leans to a little bit more happy, and I don't really get the opportunity to be in that feeling very often.”
“I'm so deeply in that right now; I do have maybe one song on there that's like extremely vulnerable, but for the most part, it is just fun, and I'm happy. I hope people can relate to that,” she added.
Second Self also includes the song “Try Your Luck,” which, for Julia Michaels, is a huge difference from her previous tracks that often embody her vulnerability and rawness.
“Try Your Luck is like the fun, flirty side of me,” said Julia. “People just kind of expected me for the rest of my career to write songs that are vulnerable and raw-- I do have that [and] that's such a deep part of me, but that's not all of me. There's a big part of me that is flirty, funny, silly, campy, and kitchy, and I really want to showcase that on Second Self. “Try Your Luck” is just like flirty and fun and cute, [...] I hope that when people hear this, they find it really cute and funny, and they can dance to it or like play it in the car with their friends, and have a good time to it.”
According to the Grammy nominee, these continuous wins in her career -- from successful singles to her EP -- are driven by her love for her new music label and fans.
The singer shared. “I believe in my music. I believe in my artistry. My fans have been waiting for me to put music out, and I love my fans. I want them to be able to have music, so I think that's what drives me: the fact that I started my own label, so I feel like I have a lot to prove, and my fans stuck by me for so long. They've been so amazing and unconditional, and I want to keep making music for them, too.”
Today, she is hoping to share her music and perform live in Asia on a world tour.
“That's somewhere that I've always wanted to go. [...] We've talked about what a tour would look like for the next music that we're having. [There's] active talks about where we might go and how we might do it, but, yeah, Asia is one of those places that I would just love to go,” Julia told GMANetwork.com
