Julie Anne San Jose and Golden Canedo in Aliw Awards 2020

Julie Anne San Jose is the Entertainer of the Year and Best R&B Artist, while Golden Cañedo is the Best New Female Artist at the 33rd Aliw Awards. Congratulations, Kapuso!

Kapuso singers Julie Anne San Jose and Golden Cañedo, The Clash director Louie Ignacio, Bilangin ang Bituin sa Langit Director Laurice Guillen, acting coach and performer Ana Feleo, and comedian Donita Nose may be ending the year 2020 on a high note, after winning big at the 33rd Aliw Awards held on Tuesday, December 15, at the Fiesta Pavilion at the Manila Hotel.

Julie Anne was hailed as the Entertainer of the Year and Best R&B Artist, while Golden Cañedo was awarded the Best New Female Artist.

Julie's awards serve as the cherry on top of her cake, as she's had an amazing 2020. Julie returned as host of The Clash Season 3, dropped her single "Try Love Again" last November, and her cover of the Parokya ni Edgar hit "Your Song" has achieved more than 30 million streams on Spotify.

Julie was even chosen by Netflix Philippines to record her own version of "Rocket to the Moon," the theme of the animated movie Over The Moon, which was released on October 29.

In 2021, Julie will be headlining the new GMA News TV drama series Heartful Cafe with David Licauco.

For The Clash Season 1 grand champion Golden Cañedo, her award is a testament to all her hard work and sacrifices.

It would be remembered that in August 2020, Golden revealed in a virtual media conference for her single "Walang Hanggang Sandali" that instead of celebrating a grand debut party for her 18th birthday, she chose to help her kababayans in Cebu.

Golden also recounted how hard up her life was back in Cebu. She was quoted as saying, “Before nangangarap din po ako na sana ako 'yung nandoon na nagbibigay at hindi 'yung nakakatanggap. So now, kasi sa help po ng family ko, 'yun po, nakakaipon po so doon po na, bakit hindi i-gift sa kanila. Kasi dati, 'Uy, may linyahan ng bigas si ganito, ganyan kasi it's Christmas.' So pumipila po kami tapos sabi namin bigyan talaga kami ng slot.”

At the 33rd Aliw Awards, director Louie Ignacio was inducted into the Aliw Hall of Fame for Best Concert Stage Director.

Back in November, Direk Louie--the force behind such Kapuso shows as The Clash, Sarap Di Ba?, Centerstage, Sunday PinaSaya, among many others--expressed his gratitude for the award-giving body.

"Blessings. Maraming Salamat ALIW AWARDS Foundation sa Pagkilala. Iba pag may ALIW award #halloffame #bestconcertstagedirector."

Direk Louie is now a 5-time Aliw Awardee for Best Concert Stage Director.

Bilangin ang Bituin sa Langit director Laurice Guillen received the Lifetime Achievement Award, while her daughter Ana Feleo earned the Best Classical Performer honor.

Ana is a renowned acting coach and is part of the Anthony Bova-led Bova Acting Workshop, which has helped talents in GMA Artist Center hone their skills as actors.

Donita Nose, who has appeared in Studio 7, The Stepdaughters, and Wowowin, among others, took home the Best Stand-Up Comedian award.
