Actress and comedienne Kakai Bautista has once again addressed the backlash over her previous post about Apple David and Chad Gammad.
In an interview with Ogie Diaz, Kakai recalled how what she thought was a simple comment sparked criticism from netizens.
The controversy began after she commented on a Facebook post featuring a clip from one of Apple's TikTok Live sessions, where Apple responded to remarks about her age.
Kakai wrote: "Ba't galit na galit kayo kung nagkagusto ang 18 years old sa kanya? BUHAY NIYA 'YAN. Pinakealaman niya ba 'yung BUHAY n'yo nung naglandi kayo? 🤣"
Looking back on the incident, Kakai said she simply wanted to understand what was happening.
"I-a-address ko lang, ha, about Apple David. Unang-una, when I said that and commented on this Facebook page, alam mo 'yung masaya ka lang. 'Hooy! Ano'ng nangyayari?' Kasi love ko 'yung mga tao doon sa page na 'yun. 'Ano'ng nangyayari? Sino na namang inaaway niyo? Bakit may ganoon?' So I said that thinking na wala lang iyon. It's not a big issue," she shared.
As the backlash intensified, Kakai said she posted a video reacting to the issue after first researching whether there was any legal complaint involved.
She also said she took time to reflect on the situation before reaching out to Apple and Chad.
"I reached out to Apple and I asked everything I could about their relationship or whatever. So everything's fine with her work, the parents of the guy, and her family. Everything is okay," Kakai said, adding that she also sought the reporter's permission before conducting the interview.
She continued: "Sabi ko, ito ang issue: 'How old was he when you met him?' He was 18 already. (Sabi ni Apple), 'Di ko siya linapitan. Siya ang lumapit sa akin. He courted me.' Chad courted her. Through a friend kaya sila nagkakilala."
After hearing the couple's side, Kakai questioned the criticism they had been receiving online.
"So what's your problem? Ano 'yung problema natin by being happy for other people and celebrating other people's happiness? Why do we have double standards? 'Pag lalaki ba older, ganito. Yes, sinsita natin. Bakit 'pag babae, lagi nating... 'Di ba? Double standards," she said.
Despite being called a "pedophile," "groomer," and "enabler" online, Kakai said the comments did not hurt her because she knows the truth.
Kakai also warned that she consults a lawyer before taking action, noting that there are laws covering online offenses such as cybercrime.
"Before you throw a lot of hateful words sa akin, please verify and validate all your facts because, for me, I did not do anything wrong by enabling happiness. Sinabi ni Ms. Apple sa akin when she met Chad, kakagaling lang ni Chad sa Canada. So Canadian boy, half-half 'yung lalaki. Laking Canada," Kakai said.
In the end, Kakai said she finds it alarming that online bashing and cancel culture have become normalized, with many people reacting before verifying the facts.
"Ang take ko diyan, pabayaan ko na. Hayaan ko na lang. Pero once pumitik ako at grabe na kayo, there's a lawyer who's just waiting," she warned.
